Lintel

Studio for Architecture

About

LINTEL is a Sydney-based studio for architecture.

Hard-wearing and often unnoticed, a lintel is the horizontal support that lays atop an opening and allows our passing through. Whether to a place familiar or not, the lintel provides an opportunity. LINTEL Studio For Architecture can be thought of in these terms, designing forward-thinking buildings with a backwards glance. We employ quality materials that have been selected responsibly in the pursuit of effortless performance and timeless compositions. Keenly aware of the infallibility of rigorous processes, the studio builds with excellence from the ground up. Behind new ideas and their realisation is a support, it’s LINTEL.

Each project is an opportunity to test our core values in real time, providing a dynamic interface that brings passionate clients and talented collaborators into conversation. Prioritising this constant communication, we are able to ensure three things – that our clients love their new spaces, that those who work on the site can be proud of their efforts, and that we deliver a program abundant with architectural merit and a kindness afforded to the built environment. Architecture, we insist, can be a joy to develop.

Raphael Newell

Architectural Graduate

Raf was awarded the Institute of Architects’ 2022 NSW Graduate Medal for his unique approach to architecture. He is interested in the repercussions of the past on built and social environments and has gained experience working on large, public developments, and with adaptive re-use on a smaller scale. In either case, Raf prioritises connection and foregrounds the potential of design to better acquaint people and places. His award-winning project took Sydney’s medium density housing as its point of departure and strategised around its betterment in policy and practice. Raf holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture and a Master of Architecture (University of Technology Sydney).
